Summary

HappyPaper is a personal paper-checklist tool. Your tasks, settings, and review photos stay on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, plans may sync to your own private iCloud database — Apple-managed, not visible to us. There is no developer server, no analytics SDK, no tracking, and no account.

What we collect

HappyPaper does not transmit any of your data to us. The data the app stores on your device is:

  • Tasks and checklists — up to three core plus two optional tasks per day, completion state, and review timestamps. Stored in a local SwiftData database; optionally synced to your private iCloud database.
  • Settings — print time, plan time, evening lock toggle, slow-decision seconds, language preference. Stored in iOS UserDefaults on your device.
  • Streak and print counts — days printed in a row and the current month’s print count. Stored in UserDefaults.
  • Photos used for OCR — the single photo you select or capture for review. Held in memory only during the scan and discarded afterward; never persisted by us.

What we do not collect

  • No account, email, name, or phone number is ever requested.
  • No backend server. The app makes no business network requests.
  • No analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs are linked.
  • No cross-app or cross-website tracking (App Tracking Transparency: Does Not Track).

How OCR works

When you tap “Scan Photo” or use the camera, HappyPaper passes the image to Apple’s on-device Vision framework (VNRecognizeTextRequest) to detect ticked and empty boxes. The photo and OCR result stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

iCloud sync

The app entitlement includes CloudKit. If you are signed in to iCloud and grant HappyPaper access, your task data may sync to your private iCloud database, which is managed by Apple. We cannot read it; only your iCloud account can. To stop syncing, sign out of iCloud or remove HappyPaper’s iCloud access in System Settings.

Third-party services

Apple CloudKit (private database) is the only external service touched, and only via iOS system APIs. No third-party SDKs are linked.

Permissions we request

  • Camera — to capture a photo of your paper checklist for OCR. Asked only when you tap the in-app camera button.
  • Photo Library — to choose an existing photo for OCR. Asked only when you tap “Scan Photo”.
  • Notifications — optional, used for the morning print reminder. Can be denied or revoked in System Settings at any time.

Children

HappyPaper is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.

Data deletion

  • Delete the app — removes all local data immediately.
  • Reset local store — Settings → “Restore Defaults” (recovery flow).
  • iCloud data — clear from System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → HappyPaper.
